SANTA SHOEBOX PROJECT

The malls are heavily laden with decorations and Christmas carols are merrily playing; reminders that Christmas is a mere 21 days away! A few weekends ago we went to help wrap presents for Santa Shoebox and I was fortunate to interview this incredible lady Debbie Zelezniak, Chief Operating Manager for the Santa Shoebox Project. She says, "If you missed the cut-off date for wrapping a shoebox or two, consider donating here." Read on for more insight on this amazing cause.

Debbie Zelezniak, Chief Operating Manager for Santa Shoebox Project

From humble beginnings of 180 shoeboxes, The Santa Shoebox Project has grown over the last 11 years with the number of donated Santa Shoeboxes up to a total of 652 180! The shoeboxes are distributed to more than 1000 recipient facilities each year, through more than 60 satellites around South Africa and Namibia. The success of the project can largely be attributed to its personal nature, where donors give gifts to children whose names, ages and genders are known. The project is supported by a vast network of kind-hearted volunteers across South Africa and Namibia. It relies on the generous backing of various corporate sponsors pledging monetary or pro bono support. Many companies, involving their staff members pledge Santa Shoeboxes as part of their Corporate Social Investment programmes.
