CABO DESIGN
Another wonderful find on Instagram is local company CaBo botanically inspired products. CaBo launched at Design Indaba in 2013 and due to a successful venture, has grown into a productive lifestyle project for owner, Mariaan van Zyl. Besides ceramics and glassware, CaBo also custom designs and manufactures products for coffee shops, wine farms and corporate gifting companies.

The name derives from Portuguese descent. " The first European to reach the Cape was the Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias in 1488, who named it the "Cape of Storms" (Cabo das Tormentas). It was later renamed by John II of Portugal as "Cape of Good Hope" (Cabo da Boa Esperança) because of the great optimism engendered by the opening of a sea route to India and the East. "

"We draw our inspiration from Cape Town and surrounds hence the name CaBo. Our designs are botanical inspired as we believe Nature is the perfect example of good design".

"We use only South African produced materials: ceramics, glass, fabric and leather, decorated with our own illustrations of botanicals and items close to Capetonian' hearts".

"The use of only matte glazes and the monochrome colour scheme is what makes CaBo unique, like the King Protea I continually use as it too is special and unique to SA and will always be close to my heart."
