POETRY IN MOTION: Poetry's A/W17 Collection

I'm a summer girl at heart but after seeing Poetry's Autumn/Winter 1017 collection I am ready to go shopping and layer up! Think comfort, warmth and wearable items to mix 'n match from season to season. Models strutted down the ramp draped in shades of dusty pink and olive tones combined with flashes of chartreuse, teal, midnight blue, all mixed with a base palette of meditative neutrals of oatmeal, milk and camel.

Florals and embroidery are still big this season, and we saw shades of burgundy, pink and black popping up. Denim is obviously timeless and Poetry have added a new girlfriend jeans range to rival the standard boyfriend jeans. Winter wardrobe accessories included silk scarves, wool felt hats, ponchos, gloves and leather belts.

Boots of nappa leather and vegan suede in a range of styles from ankle to knee-high, calf-length boots to riding boots and some veldskoen that couldn't be cooler for weekend getaways or city work days. I've always had a soft spot for "vellies" as our standard attire throughout our childhood was cordorouys and veldskoen, perfect for climbing trees, riding horses and roaming the fields. Back then I think it was just a cheap way for my mother to dress three tomboys; it's funny when these things come back into fashion!

There is nothing warmer or more luxurious than wearing a cashmere item and I was really excited to see that this grey cardigan is 100% cashmere (R1899). By choosing a neutral colour it can be part of your wardrobe staples for many, many years, especially if carefully hand washed.

Poetry is one of my go-to places when looking for presents. One of their gorgeous scented candles or pottery pieces always goes down well, and one can always purchase a voucher. Some think a voucher is impersonal but wouldn't you rather your friend choose something they really love than have them just pretend to like your choice only to hide it in the back of their cupboard?Or maybe it depends on who bought you the present, where the thought means more than the gift? Let's have a chat about this subject of presents versus vouchers sometime soon but right now it's back to Poetry's homeware. This season is really beautiful, with the pieces looking as though they belong to someone well-travelled who collects keepsakes from all around the world. There's the black crockery and cutlery range sourced from Portugal, colourful candles made by Kapula (a company founded to employ the towns women in Bredasdorp), throws sourced from India and scented candles made in the Overberg. The simplicity of the palette echoes the clothing and accesssories ranges.

Poetry's Autumn/Winter17 collection is available in stores now and online.
